From phone to workflow

Move barcode data to the computer where you need it.

Barcode Inspector creates a standard text report that is easy to email, AirDrop, message, archive, open, and copy into another system.

Create the report

Scan and inspect

Scan a standard barcode or USPS IMb and wait for the Barcode Details screen.

Tap Share Results

Barcode Inspector creates barcode_inspector_results.txt containing the complete formatted inspection.

Choose the destination

Select Mail, AirDrop, Messages, Files, or a compatible chat or collaboration app from the iOS share sheet.

What the file contains

The report is ordinary plain text—no proprietary software and no conversion required.

Category: USPS Intelligent Mail barcode Format: USPS IMb Description: USPS Intelligent Mail barcode inspection. COMPLETE BARCODE Complete Value: [decoded value] USPS TRACKING DATA Tracking Code: [20 digits] Barcode ID: [2 digits] Service Type ID: [3 digits] Mailer ID: [6 or 9 digits] Serial Number: [remaining digits] ROUTING DATA Routing Code: [0, 5, 9, or 11 digits]

The exact fields depend on the barcode and the information encoded in it.

Email it to any computer

  1. Tap Share Results.
  2. Select your email app.
  3. Address the message to yourself or a coworker.
  4. Open the attached text file on a Mac, Windows PC, phone, or tablet.
  5. Copy the required values into your production system, ticket, report, or message.

AirDrop it to a Mac

  1. Make sure AirDrop is enabled on the iPhone and Mac.
  2. Tap Share Results, then choose AirDrop.
  3. Select the Mac.
  4. Open barcode_inspector_results.txt from Downloads.

Send it through text or chat

Choose Messages or another compatible chat application from the iOS share sheet. The recipient receives the same readable text file. Availability depends on the applications installed on the phone and the receiving service's file rules.

Paste directly from iPhone to Mac

If the iPhone and Mac use the same Apple Account and Universal Clipboard is enabled:

  1. Tap Copy All Data on the iPhone.
  2. Move to the Mac.
  3. Press Command-V in the destination application.

If the devices use different accounts or Universal Clipboard is unavailable, email or AirDrop the report instead.

Copy only one value

For quick data entry, use the copy control beside the exact field you need. This avoids selecting text manually and reduces transcription errors.

Your choice controls the transfer. Barcode Inspector creates the report locally and opens the iOS share sheet. Nothing is sent until you choose an application or destination.

Troubleshooting

The receiving application shows an attachment

That is expected. Open barcode_inspector_results.txt to view or copy the complete result.

A chat message will not send

Confirm that the recipient can receive attachments through that service. Try Mail, AirDrop, or Save to Files to verify the report independently.

The share destination is missing

Scroll to the end of the share sheet and tap More. iOS displays only compatible installed applications.
